Saint Nicholas - Our Patron Saint
St. Nicholas should be a great example to us all for he was a kind and generous man whose care for people less fortunate than himself was a wonderful example of compassion and shows to us all what giving is really about.
St. Nicholas was born in a part of the world we now call Turkey.
Nicholas’ parents shared whatever they had with anyone who needed it and Nicholas too was well known for his kindness. When he gave three bags of gold to save three poor daughters from being sold as slaves he did it secretly without looking for thanks. We can see St. Nicholas holding these bags of gold on his statue by the font in our church.
Nicholas became a priest and later on a bishop. He preached the Good News with great courage and was treated very harshly because of his faith.
Throughout his life, Nicholas cared especially for children; on his travels Nicholas helped sailors who were in trouble at sea, sometimes he was with them on their ship, sometimes sailors prayed to Nicholas to save them. This is why our school badge shows a ship.

We can all look at the life of Saint Nicholas as a good example of how to try our best to spread the Good News and live like Jesus wants us to.

Prayer to St. Nicholas
O good holy Nicholas,
you who brought joy to children,
put in my heart the spirit of childhood
about which the Gospel speaks.
Teach me how to sow
happiness around me.
Amen.
